Anonymous brings you #OpUkraine

Greetings Citizens of the world,
We are Anonymous.
It has come to our Attention that the UEFA Football EURO 2012 & Ukrainian Government have been engaging in one of the most brutal, bloody systematic slaughters of animals the world has ever seen. So far 80,000 dogs have been killed in the cities of Ukraine to “clean-up” the streets for a week long football event. Over 1 Million people have signed various petitions addressed directly to the UEFA and Ukrainian Government calling for an end to these inhumane acts, yet they ignore every complaint. Even worse: The Ukrainian Government censors these events with lies and fabricated media reports. Why do you ask? The answer is clear, money. UEFA makes millions of Euros with this event, as does Ukraine for hosting the event. 250,000 more dogs lives will be lost leading up to the UEFA EURO 2012 and UEFA continue to deny having any involvement with the Ukraine’s slaughter, stating they cannot interfere with matters not directly related to football, even though they ARE directly related. UEFA has donated on two occasions 8,000 Euros for the Sterilization of stray Dogs, as well as cats in the city of Ukraine, as well as giving away 196 Million Euros in bonuses for the whole event. Who is to blame? Who do we point the finger at? It’s easy.
UEFA President Michel Franswah Platini & Ukraine President Viktor Yanukohvich, You are both solely responsible for this massacre on animals. When Several foreign animal organizations offered their knowledge and help to rescue the stray animals in the cities of Ukraine, you showed absolutely no interest. You claim there is not enough money to start an animal-rescue program, yet you have enough money to buy a 20,000 dollar mobile crematorium? Your actions contradict European Animal rights Convention and any adequate humans moral principles!

We Anonymous give you, Operation Ukraine. We will fight against your violation of human, and animal rights. We will not forgive your Canine Holocaust, and We will not forget the Censorship you impose upon the people. To the Ukraine Government & UEFA

We are Legion.
We do not Forgive.
We Do not Forget.
You should have expected US.

hi, so as you can see, these are my feelings about the fact that tonight’s Performing Arts & Technology meetup (which is sure to be totally awesome) sold out WAY in advance.
allll day I continued to think “OK MAYBE IT WILL GET UNCROWDED SOMEHOW BY RSVP CANCELZ?” noop.  And so, presumably along with teh other 32 waitlisted, I am bummed it’s sold out.
That said, I’ll be keeping one ear up. Plz take notes if you’re going…during these two sections especially for Liubo Borrisov:

Liubo Borissov is a bricoleur working with digital and organic media. In his works, he explores the interface between art, science and technology. His multimedia installations, performances and digital video works have been featured internationally, including the New Interfaces for Musical Expression, ICMC and SIGGRAPH conferences, the Lincoln Center Summer Festival, NYC and the Kennedy Center, Washington, DC. http://vimeo.com/album/14350

JAPAN’S ANIMALS NEED HELP, TOO!
For each person who ‘likes’ the Facebook Page of Dog Bless You, a dollar will be donated to help finance the use of search and rescue dogs that are so critical in disaster situations like what’s happening in Japan right now. You can also donate to Animal Refuge Kansai, the American Humane Association, The National Disaster Search Dog Foundation, or World Vets. Japan Cat Network, together with Heart Tokushima and Animal Friends Niigata has formed Japan Animal Rescue and Support.

It was thought that Cat Island had been completely submerged, but there’s been an update saying that the cats and people on Tashirojima are okay, however, they have a lot of building damage and are in need of necessities for both humans and cats.
Here are some more links aimed at helping animals in Japan:
+ SPCA International+ Animal Miracle Foundation is collecting cell phones to send to volunteers helping animals.+ Japan Earthquake Animal Rescue and Support Facebook group.+ For news about Cat Island (Tashirojima), please see There is Hope for Cat Island.+ Update on Pet Rescue Efforts in Japan.(Many thanks to The Conscious Cat for the initial list and photo.)

Sustainability is not a topic that always inspires such clean, stark, dark imagery. Which makes this image all the more impactful.
I love the selection of the bright yellow. Lately I’ve been noticing how yellow is such a focal point in labels, it subconsciously undercuts the emotional appeal here. (note to self, time to round up a little gallery of this classic bright mustard yellow in labels — if you have any thoughts, would love to hear/ see links etc). And reminded me of a quotation that hit me hard:

Adopting the bold stance involved in restoration work can catalyze a different kind of transformation.  By becoming active partners in regenerating the health of their localities—and, in a less dramatic way, of the Earth as a whole—people start to reverse the soul-numbing patterns of exploiting and abusing the source of so many life-sustaining gifts.  They also begin to release the often-repressed, but nonetheless crippling, emotions—guilt and shame, grief and despair, loneliness and powerlessness—associated with going along with the relentless machinery of corporate consumer culture.  — Elan Shapiro

Emphasis is mine. Note: not all consumer culture is relentless, it’s the notion of being caught in a churn that is wasteful and all consuming (no pun intended) that becomes an emotional drain as well. All Marxist intonations notwithstanding, I really believe this is true (re: guilt / shame) and so I’m trying to be much more intentional about what i buy in 2011. What do you think?

oops, that one is no longer viewable. try here:

These ads for Egypt’s PANDA cheese are so bizarre. it sort of seems like the CHEESE IS PANDA MILK? IS IT?! no probably not. just love how pushy and passive aggressive pandas are initially. there’s also a funny / not politically correct narrative here about arab nations and not doing what they say?

& here’s an entertaining article from LA Weekly on these ads

 Never say no to Panda!

this weekend i came across a creature in the preview for THE LAST AIRBENDER. and I’m not gonna lie— It was love at first sight. Shaggy, depressive, giant, furry, he is exactly what i look for in a stuffed animal / pet. I stalked him across the hinternetz until I found the above image. I’m PRETTY EXCITED NOW.
His name is Appa. He’s an air bison. He fears fire, loves to swim, is fiercely loyal, and gets tired easily (NOTE: WE HAVE ALL THESE THINGS IN COMMON). This is him as an anime:

Clearly i’m not the only one into him. there’s a Society for Air Bison Appreciation. Behold its members. they are not kidding around. Nor am I. Who will see the upcoming kids flick with me?

3. Hero comes back to life after dying.

4. Nationality of main hero is a minority.

5. Main hero has a trade unrelated to his role in story.

6. Women most often the cause of all the trouble.
